On Monday, June 30, streaming giant Netflix announced that it was entering into a partnership with NASA. It is expected that this will allow millions of viewers around the world to watch rocket launches and astronauts’ spacewalks live.

“Whether you’re an avid space fan or just really, really enjoy watching the Earth glow from 250 miles up, the countdown has officially begun,” says Netflix’s blog announcing the new NASA+ program.

According to Netflix, the programs will include “stunning views of Earth from the International Space Station (ISS), spacewalks that will make your palms sweat,” and live broadcasts of rocket launches.

Details of the conditions

NASA has also announced that it is pleased with the future collaboration with the streaming service, which recently reported 300 million subscribers. The space agency says that it is interested in making its activities known to as many people as possible. In addition, the law requires them to be transparent.

Netflix, in turn, reports that details of the space streams will be announced to viewers later this month. It is expected that watching them will not be difficult. At the same time, all these broadcasts will remain available free on the NASA+ channel.

In general, Netflix has recently been actively shifting from showing feature films to providing its viewers with access to broadcasts of something from the real world. The company recently signed a similar agreement with French television group TF1. Prior to that, it had already broadcast two NFL games and a boxing match between YouTuber Jake Paul and former professional boxer Mike Tyson.
