On the night from September 17 to 18, it will be possible to observe a partial lunar eclipse on Earth. It is interesting because it will coincide in time with the Super Moon. The eclipse will be broadcast live on the Internet.
A Super Moon is the coincidence of a Full Moon with the moment when the Moon passes perigee. At this moment, the visible diameter of the lunar disk is about 7% larger than usual. However, it is worth saying that it is rather difficult for the human eye to notice such a difference.
The upcoming Super Moon adds additional interest because it coincides with a partial lunar eclipse. On September 18 at 0:41 a.m. Universal Time, the Earth’s penumbra will begin to move over the Moon’s disk. The disk of our moon will fade, but it will be difficult to see with the naked eye. At 2:12 UTC, the very shadow of our planet will begin to cover the edge of the Moon.
The maximum phase of the eclipse will be reached at 2:44 a.m. UTC, when the Earth’s shadow will cover 3.5% of the lunar disk. At 3:15 the Earth’s shadow will leave the Moon, and at 4:47 the penumbra will also disappear. The best conditions for observing the eclipse will be in the USA. As for Ukraine, the event will be observed in the morning twilight. The live broadcast of the eclipse will be available on Youtube.
