Blue Origin head Jeff Bezos has said he is not concerned that Elon Musk has a huge influence on the administration of newly elected President Donald Trump. He respects SpaceX as a worthy competitor and expects no negative consequences for his plans to launch a New Glenn rocket.
Jeff Bezos isn’t worried about Musk
“No need to fear Elon Musk’s influence on the Trump administration”. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who also owns the private space company Blue Origin, can be put to such a thesis. He was asked about it during the New York Times DealBook Summit, which took place on December 4.
Bezos, who is Musk’s main competitor in the space industry, said he took at face value the SpaceX chief’s words that he would not use his political position for personal gain.
Bezos also recalled the Department of Government Efficiency, which should evaluate, among other things, government investments in space projects. It should be headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. And this decision is fully supported by the owner of Amazon.
Bezos’ space plans
The most interesting thing about Bezos’ interview was that he gave it just hours after Donald Trump announced that he planned to nominate Jared Isaacman as the new head of NASA. This space businessman and private astronaut has close ties to all the same Elon Musk.
Isaacman recently said he was not pleased with NASA’s decision to award a second contract for the Artemis Human Landing System program to Blue Origin after previously selecting SpaceX. Although he did praise Bezos himself before, saying that Blue Origin was very lucky to have such a dedicated executive.
Bezos also called SpaceX “capable competitors”, somewhat praising them, but actually flattering himself a lot. After all, Elon Musk’s company has managed to carry out 120 launches this year, while Blue Origin is still preparing for the first launch of the New Glenn rocket.
The latter has Bezos’ full attention. The rocket is already at Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 36. Everyone is eagerly awaiting its launch. Bezos admits that so far it is not a profitable business. However, he is optimistic about the future and believes that Blue Origin will be his most valuable asset in the future, surpassing Amazon, which is now valued at $4.3 billion.
