“Cosmonaut in love”

The Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun reported on a case of “space” fraud that happened this summer. In June, an unknown man contacted a 65-year-old woman, whose name is not called on Instagram.

He introduced himself as a Russian cosmonaut who is currently on board the International Space Station and has very limited internet access. He accompanied his stories with random photographs of space.

The “cosmonaut” told the woman that he loves her very much, wants to start a new life in Japan and, of course, as soon as he marries her on Earth. But to do this, he needs money for a rocket and payment for landing in Japan.

Conman

In the end, the woman believed her new acquaintance and in the period from August 19 to September 5, she made several transfers to the account indicated by the “cosmonaut” in the amount of 4.4 million yen, which is approximately USD 30 thousand.

However, after that, the man continued to ask her for money and the woman finally suspected that he was a conman and contacted the police. But she started an investigation into fraud, but the man disappeared.

Recently, there has been a whole invasion of conmen pretending to be in love in Japan. This case stands out among them only by the exotic story of a criminal who was able to even very unromantic Russian cosmonauts to his liars.
