On Wednesday, Elon Musk announced the creation of a new company specializing in artificial intelligence after months of teasing plans to create a competitor to ChatGPT.
A company called xAI introduced a website and a team of a dozen employees. According to the website, the new company will be headed by Elon Musk, and it will work closely with Deep Mind, OpenAI, Microsoft, Tesla and other companies to make progress in the implementation of the mission.

“The goal of xAI is to understand the true nature of the universe,” the website says, which echoes the formulations that Musk used earlier to describe his ambitions in the field of artificial intelligence.
Musk was one of the first supporters of OpenAI, which created ChatGPT, but later criticized it for introducing precautions that aim to prevent biased or sexist reactions of the viral chatbot.
Musk announced the creation of a new company a few months after he warned in an interview that, in his opinion, artificial intelligence could lead to the “destruction of civilization”. He joined other technology leaders who called for a pause in the uncontrolled race for artificial intelligence.

The entrepreneur supplemented his post with a picture showing that the numbers that made up the date of the company’s creation (12.07.23) add up to 42 — this is a reference to Musk’s favorite novel “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. This is exactly the answer given by the smartest artificial intelligence in Adams’ work, reflecting on the main question of “Life, the Universe and Everything Else” for 7.5 million years and eating an incredible amount of resources.
