Bright flare in the sky

At 1:15:17 GMT+3 on May 1, residents of Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions saw a flare of blue color. In some places, it was so strong that it lit up the entire sky.

Soon, videos began to be posted on social networks showing something falling high in the sky and then exploding. And the flare happens without sound. This indicates that the event occurred at a high altitude.

According to experts, in this case, the cause of the explosion was not Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, but a celestial phenomenon. A space rock flew into the earth’s atmosphere, which had traveled through the Solar System for millions of years before, overheated due to friction in the upper atmosphere and caused a phenomenon known as a meteor.

It was a meteor

This is not the first time during Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine that a meteor has fallen over it. The last time it happened on April 19, 2023. Then a bright trace of fire and a flare were seen over the Kyiv region and caused numerous disputes whether it was a UFO that was shot down by the Kyiv air defense.

This time, according to preliminary data, the meteor was caused by a rock with a diameter of 2-3 meters, which entered the Earth’s atmosphere over the eastern regions of Ukraine. It is still unknown whether any of its fragments reached the surface of the Earth and the exact area over which the explosion occurred.

Anyone who witnessed this infrequent celestial phenomenon is advised to send a report to the website of the International Meteor Organization. This is the only easy way to quickly find out about the approximate ground trajectory of the meteor. You can do this by following the link: https://fireballs.imo.net/members/imo/report_intro
