Defence Intelligence of Ukraine summed up the results of the first year of ICEYE satellite application

The Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine summed up the results of the first year of ICEYE satellite use. They noted its huge role in determining targets for special operations and released two images obtained with the help of this spacecraft.

ICEYE satellite already works for Ukraine for a year

A year ago, on September 20, 2022, volunteers handed over the ICEYE spacecraft for the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. Today, Ukrainian intelligence officers remembered this in their official Telegram channel. They thanked all the people who donated their money a year ago so that our state would have reliable eyes in the sky. The foundation of Serhiy Prytula and Ihor Lachenkov was especially noted at the same time.

“During this year, the People’s Satellite has brought a lot of benefits in our struggle for freedom — its capabilities allow us to receive intelligence data critical for combat operations on a daily basis and burn tons of enemy deadly equipment!” the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine said in a statement.

The message also mentions the recent attack on occupied Sevastopol. Then, as a result of a special operation, the landing ship Minsk and the submarine Rostov-on-Don were destroyed. It turns out that this operation would also be impossible without the ICEYE spacecraft.

Satellite images

The ICEYE spacecraft is in the category of satellites with radar with a combined aperture, or SAR. This means that the earth’s surface is not photographed in ringing noise, as well as radio signals reflecting their image on the main image forms.

Because of this, the result of its work does not seem as exciting as that of optical satellites. But the enemy’s positions can be determined even at night, through clouds and fog. And it was two such images that Defence Intelligence of Ukraine added to its message.

The first one shows the Dyagilevo air base. Strike aircraft most often take off from there and hit Ukrainian cities with missiles. Defence Intelligence of Ukraine already did all the work on decoding the image and marked the Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 aircraft on it.

The second image shows the air defense system position in the Belgorod Oblast. A very similar one was recently destroyed in the Crimea. Here, the S-300 or S-400 missile systems are still intact. But it is possible that this is not for long.
