Rogozin promises to tell Putin when Russia leaves the ISS

The chairman of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, wrote on his Twitter that he would report to the Russian leadership on the timing of the termination of cooperation with other countries on the ISS. He made this statement commenting on the response of the space agencies of the United States, Canada and the European Union regarding sanctions against the aggressor country.

Rogozin was answered about the sanctions

On April 2, the head of the Roscosmos Corporation posted a lengthy message on his Twitter. It can be regarded as a promise to completely stop Russia’s participation in the work of the International Space Station (ISS).

The message begins with a comment on the response of NASA, the Canadian Space Agency and the European Space Agency at his request. Rogozin asked whether these organizations could abolish sanctions against Russian enterprises associated with his department. To which he received a logical answer that they are not dealing with this issue.

Sanctions against Russia in connection with the war against Ukraine were imposed by the US Senate, as well as the relevant government agencies of Canada and the European Union. That’s where Rogozin was asked to apply. However, he understood from this answer only that the sanctions would not be lifted, but they would not refuse him directly.

Rogozin ‘s Reaction

Rogozin’s reaction turned out to be quite typical for him. He mentioned the European bureaucracy, Russia’s crucial role on the ISS and accused former partners of trying to bring his country to its knees. The only thing that remains unclear is what he had in mind as an alternative to the destruction of the orbital complex. It is quite possible that it was his department.

However, he clearly stated that normal relations with “neighbors in orbit” are possible only with the lifting of sanctions, which for some reason he considers illegal. The message ends with a promise to report to the Russian leadership on further plans for the ISS. According to him, he is going to tell Putin specific dates for the complete cessation of cooperation with the United States, Canada and the EU in this field.

Will Russia leave the ISS

Rogozin’s attempt to demand that the space agencies lift sanctions that they did not impose may seem strange. However, it completely fits into his model of behavior since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war. He is not trying to be diplomatic in the conventional sense. Instead, his Twitter is rife with ultimatums.

And the official is not afraid to implement his threats. The international space community is experiencing certain difficulties from this. But mostly Rogozin harms his country. Russia has already lost almost all of its contracts with foreign states, and mostly on its own initiative. Nevertheless, it does not seem to stop the head of Roscosmos.

Therefore, whether Russia will actually leave the ISS remains open. Under normal circumstances, it would sound absurd. But over the past month and a half, the aggressor country has implemented a bunch of ridiculous things. Dmitry Rogozin embodies nonsense in general incessantly, as evidenced by his Twitter. Therefore, it is quite possible that it is his actions that will push Elon Musk to fulfill his promises, and the work of the orbital station will finally cease to depend on inadequate figures.
