Pettit also took a unique photo last week as the Polaris Dawn spacecraft was returning to Earth after a five-day mission. During his previous visits to the ISS, he has also pleasantly impressed his subscribers with his space photos, so expect more such photos during this six-month mission.

Particularly popular are his photos of star trails taken in 2012Pettit’s other exciting work is an infrared image of the river delta taken in the same year.with Nikon D3s, where he used multiple 30-second exposures. He captured the flora, bright with purple hues, using a modified Nikon camera.

While many astronauts are simply enjoying the views from the ISS, the ones like Pettit, Matthew Dominick and Thomas Pesquet are actively taking pictures of what they see. And that pleases their subscribers, who can admire the beauty of the space through their lenses.
