Ukrainian pipes for Elon Musk

While American businessman Elon Musk says he will send humans to Mars if Donald Trump wins the US Presidential election, it appears that he has some totally unexpected people helping him to do it. In particular, it turned out that pipes for SpaceX were supplied by the Ukrainian company Centravis.

Centravis is based in the city of Nikopol and has been producing seamless metal pipes for many years. They are characterized by high resistance to mechanical impact and aggressive chemical environments. However, when they were requested by SpaceX representatives, it turned out to be a real challenge for them.

Because they didn’t produce the kind of pipes that the American company needed. Their engineers had to additionally contact them and conduct research work. The result was a 28-ton product that has already departed for the United States.

Past space orders

We could only wonder how Elon Musk could have known about the existence of a Ukrainian company producing pipes. But the matter is that this is not the first time Centravis has dealt with U.S. space manufacturers.

Back in 2017, NASA ordered products from them for the ground test of the SLS rocket designed to take astronauts to the Moon. After all, there are not many manufacturers of large diameter seamless pipes in the world. Thus, the Ukrainian company can be rightfully called a manufacturer of space technology.
