The American Aerospace Administration will no longer cooperate with Russia on new space projects while the current president of the aggressor country in relation to Ukraine is in power. This was stated by the famous retired astronaut Scott Kelly.
The 58-year-old astronaut explained that the American and European space agencies no longer need Russia, because “we can do everything that they can”. Scott Kelly expressed his opinion a few months after Roscosmos announced its intention to withdraw from the International Space Station amid rising tensions over the war in Ukraine.
“I hope that we will be able to complete the cycle on the International Space Station, which should be destroyed by 2030. I hope we can keep our partnership until the end. But Russia’s withdrawal from the ISS project will harm them, not the United States, as well as the people working at the station,” Kelly commented in an interview with Daily Mail Online.
Kelly worked closely with Russian cosmonauts for years, being on the ISS in the period from 2015 to 2016. But after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the astronaut began openly criticizing the actions of the aggressor country’s authorities and was unpleasantly surprised by how his fellow astronauts were literally brainwashed.
Kelly also shared the revelation of some Russian colleagues who support their country’s actions towards Ukraine, which greatly angered the astronaut, who during the war actively helped familiar Ukrainians to evacuate cities that came under fire. Moreover, at the beginning of the war, the astronaut even refused the Russian medal “For Merits in Space Exploration”, which was presented to him by Dmitry Medvedev in 2011.
Earlier we talked about how Scott Kelly created the NFT to support Ukraine.
