Russian space intelligence collapses under the influence of international sanctions

The space intelligence of the Russian Federation has collapsed due to international sanctions, the production of key elements has been stopped due to a shortage of foreign-made electronics. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense informs about this in a telegram.

After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the joint-stock company “Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev” came under international sanctions. According to the military intelligence of Ukraine, at the facilities of the strategically important enterprise of the defense industry for the enemy, Russian designers and scientists, among other things, are developing the so-called “big eyes” — means of conducting space intelligence, in particular:

  • Repey is a project of a promising high-orbit electronic intelligence system;
  • Heracles-KV is a project of the global space command and relay system complex;
  • Sphere is a project of a unified satellite communication system of 3 stages.

The company is located in the city of the closed type Zheleznogorsk (Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russian Federation). The production of key elements of the listed facilities has been de facto stopped due to an acute shortage of electronics components of both foreign and Russian production. We are talking about the absence of hundreds of thousands of components of equipment for space modules. As a result, the planned deadlines for the completion of research work of these space intelligence complexes have been disrupted and postponed for several years:

  • Repey project – from 2022 to 2024;
  • Heracles-KV project – from 2023 to 2025;
  • Sphere project – from 2025 to 2027.

The Ukrainian intelligence service added that due to sanctions and mobilization, several more branches of the Russian economy would soon be at risk of ceasing to exist.
