The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine will now have its own space policy department. This was stated by Deputy Minister for Digitalization Kateryna Chernohorenko. The main task of this body should be to consolidate all efforts to create a national satellite constellation.
New Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine
During an international forum, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister for Digitalization Kateryna Chernohorenko said that a separate space policy department was being created in the military department.
“We have a law on space activities that says the Defense Ministry should create a military space policy. It is not only the purchase of innovative solutions from engineers, it is not only the creation of a community for the best solutions to come to Ukraine, but it is also the creation of space forces,” she said.
According to Chernohorenko, the new body should become the main customer for space equipment, products and services in Ukraine. It should unite the efforts of engineers, scientists, and organizations to improve the nation’s defense capabilities.
Ukrainian military satellites
Kateryna Chernohorenko stated that the new department should become a kind of hub. It should be approached by those rocket technology developers who want to help the Ministry of Defense but do not know how to do it.
Chernohorenko added that by 2030 Ukraine planned to have national satellites for defense purposes, as well as a system of air alerts and space control.
