Summer is a traditional time for blockbusters. And 2024 is no exception. The premiere schedule for the coming months is filled with a large number of long-awaited new releases — and a number of them are dedicated to space. The Universe Space Tech team has selected the most interesting films worth watching.
Alien: Romulus
What is the movie about?
The film is set between the events of Alien and Aliens. A group of colonists exploring an abandoned space station come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
Why it might be interesting
The xenomorph franchise has long been unable to boast of much integrity and quality. It is no secret that Prometheus and, especially, Alien: Covenant in general greatly disappointed many fans who expected something completely different.

Alien: Romulus is an attempt at a kind of work on mistakes. The film’s authors claim that they have made every effort to combine the best elements from the first two films in the series. The fact that its style is clearly inspired by the popular computer game Alien Isolation adds to the interest of Romulus. We will find out in three months what will happen in the end and whether the creators’ promises will be fulfilled. The film’s premiere is scheduled for 16 August.
Borderlands
What is the movie about?
Lilith, one of the most famous bounty hunters in the universe, returns to her home planet, Pandora, to find a missing girl. There she forms an alliance with a team of very picturesque and diverse characters. They have to fight alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to incredible power.
Why it might be interesting
Recently, the video game adaptation genre has been actively gaining momentum. The series The Last of Us and Fallout have received very high marks from both critics and ordinary viewers. Now the popular Borderlands game series is next in line.
The upcoming film can be credited with a usually very winning formula: a group of characters who are completely different from each other, who at first cannot stand each other, join forces and become a single team. The very popular Guardians of the Galaxy, for example, is based on the same scheme. Another strong point of Borderlands is its casting. The film stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Haley Bennett and Jack Black. The film’s world premiere is scheduled for 7 August. Then it will become clear whether its creators have managed to repeat the success of Fallout and Guardians of the Galaxy.
A Quiet Place: Day One
What is the movie about?
The film takes place on the first day after the appearance of mysterious alien monsters on Earth. They are completely blind, but they have acute hearing, thanks to which, having heard the victim, they quickly catch up and kill them. A girl named Sam is trying to get out of chaotic New York.
Why it might be interesting
The film A Quiet Place became one of the most unexpected hits of 2018. The film grossed $340 million on a budget of $17 million. It is not surprising that it has acquired a sequel and now a prequel.
As the title suggests, the film takes place in the first days of the alien invasion. Judging by the trailer, the authors relied on scale. While the original film was a relatively intimate story set in the countryside, we will now see monsters ravaging the metropolis while the army tries in vain to stop them. And, of course, they will not do without traditional suspense episodes, when the creators intend for the audience to flinch at the slightest noise. We will find out how successful they are in scaring the audience as soon as 28 June.
Fly Me to the Moon
What is the movie about?
In the context of the space race between the USSR and the US, NASA hires marketers to “sell” the moon landing to the public, as well as come up with an alternative plan if the Apollo 11 mission fails. Experts propose to make a fake video with the landing of American astronauts on the moon.
Why it might be interesting
The Moon Race and related conspiracy theories have become the basis for many different works. The authors of Show Me the Moon also used them as a source of inspiration, though in a somewhat unexpected way. After all, the film is primarily a romantic comedy.
The plot of Fly Me to the Moon focuses on the relationship between a NASA employee, played by Channing Tatum, and a marketing specialist, played by Scarlett Johansson. The two share a spark, but their work quickly leads them to disagreements that threaten to destroy their relationship.
The presence of this spark between Tatum and Johansson on the big screen is likely to determine the film’s success. Both are very popular actors, but the rom-com genre hasn’t had the best of times lately. We will know whether Fly Me to the Moon will be able to reverse this trend on 12 July, the date of the film’s premiere.
