Solid “good”: Critics rated the Star Wars Outlaws game

Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws video game is one of the most anticipated releases this autumn. It is a single-player game in the Star Wars universe, where the protagonist is a rogue who travels through open worlds with no connection to the Jedi. The game is scheduled for release on August 30, but journalists who received a copy before ordinary players are already sharing their impressions and publishing reviews.

Reaction to Star Wars Outlaws is generally positive, although withour enthusiasm. On Metacritic, it has a score of 76 on PS5 (45 reviews), 77 on Xbox (12 reviews), and 77 on PC (17 reviews). That’s a solid score for “good” games, although it usually takes 85+ to reach the “really great” level, and 90+ is the “Game of the Year” level.

Here are a few reviews from critics:

  • Dextero (8/10): “Impressive open-world design where you can explore large planets, however the story is a little predictable, which prevents the game from becoming a cult.”
  • Washington Post (7.5/10): “The game demonstrates why Ubisoft’s formula remains popular and reliable.”
  • IGN (7/10): “An interesting intergalactic adventure, but simple stealth, repetitive combat, and bugs keep you from fully enjoying the game.”
  • VGC (6/10): “An Uncharted-style adventure with a fast-paced story, but an underdeveloped reputation system and syndicate line.”

So we can already say that Ubisoft Studios as a whole managed to create a pretty good game for Star Wars fans. Star Wars Outlaws is a good project, but without extraordinary achievements. Like many of Ubisoft’s creations, it has its pros and cons. The game will definitely find its audience among fans who will love it, but for most, it will be just another adventure for a few evenings that will be quickly forgotten.
