Summer is traditionally considered the season of blockbusters – large-scale, high-budget movies packed with action and expensive special effects. And 2025 is no exception. Its summer premiere schedule is filled with plenty of highly anticipated new releases. The editors of the Universe Space Tech have selected the most interesting sci-fi movies of the summer that are worth paying attention to.
28 Years Later
What is the movie about?
Twenty-eight years after a virus escaped from a lab and devastated Britain, a group of survivors live on a small island. When a father and son are forced to leave it and travel to dry land, they encounter the infected and dark secrets they never knew they had.
Why is it worth waiting for?
“28 Days Later” is considered the film that brought back the public’s interest in the zombie genre and popularized the concept of ‘fast’ infected. It also greatly boosted the career of lead actor Cillian Murphy, who won an Oscar a couple of years ago. It is possible that this was the decisive factor that prompted director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland to return to the world they created and show what it would look like 28 years after the events of the original.
It should be said that Boyle and Garland have set themselves a very ambitious task. After all, it is not just a sequel, but a whole trilogy, the first two films of which have already been filmed. The main roles in the first of them were played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Jodie Comer.
Judging by the trailer, we can expect a gloomy journey through a world changed beyond recognition, in which the heroes will have to face not only mutated infected, but also local cults that emerged after the collapse of civilization. One of the main intrigues is the appearance of Cillian Murphy’s character. Presumably, he will return only in the second part of the new trilogy – but perhaps we will be pleased with his cameo in the first movie. It will be released on June 20, 2025.
Superman
What is the movie about?
The movie follows the journey of Clark Kent (Superman) as he tries to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and ideals in a world where they are considered old-fashioned.
Why is it worth waiting for?
“Superman” is perhaps one of the most anticipated comic book adaptations of 2025. Its success or failure will determine not only the future of the rebooted DC movie universe but also the entire superheroic genre, which has been stagnating in recent years.
This, to put it mildly, is a difficult task that James Gunn – the creator of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, which is rightly considered by many fans to be one of the strongest elements of the Marvel movie universe – has put on his shoulders. Whether he will be able to create the impossible again and get rid of the heavy burden of the legacy of the previous, far from always successful, films about the Man of Steel, we will know on July 11, 2025. This is the day when the world premiere of the new “Superman” will take place.
Jurassic World: Rebirth
What is the movie about?
A group of researchers embarks on a journey to a tropical island to extract the DNA of three giant dinosaurs. Their goal is to make a medical breakthrough that could change the future of humanity.
Why is it worth waiting for?
Even though the “Jurassic World” trilogy pleased its creators with very impressive box office receipts, the decline in the quality of its films was visible to the naked eye. “Jurassic World: Rebirth” is an attempt at a soft reboot of the franchise. Its action will unfold a few years after the previous installment, and we will see brand new characters played by Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.
Judging by the trailer, we are again waiting for adventures on a tropical island in the “company” of both familiar to us and completely new species of dinosaurs. Additional interest to the picture is given by the fact that it was shot by Gareth Edwards: the director of “Rogue One” and “The Creator”, whose strengths are considered to be visuals and strong action.

Fantastic Four: First Steps
What is the movie about?
A new comic book adaptation of the Fantastic Four, whose action unfolds in a parallel dimension. Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Sue Storm, and her brother Johnny must protect Earth from the space god Galactus and his henchman, the Silver Surfer.
Why is it worth waiting for?
“Fantastic Four” traditionally had no luck with screen adaptations. The first serious attempt, made in the early noughties, ended with only the second movie. And the 2015 reboot turned out to be an epic failure.
Now Marvel has taken up the task. The new “Fantastic Four” will be the first movie of the sixth phase of its film universe. In addition to its connection to the new “Avengers”, the movie is also interesting for its retro-futuristic aesthetic, which is inspired by the 1960s.
The main roles in the film were performed by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The new “Fantastic Four” will be released on July 25, 2025.
M3GAN 2.0
What is the movie about?
Two years after the M3GAN massacre, Gemma becomes an advocate of regulating artificial intelligence. When M3GAN’s technology is stolen and used in military production to create an AM3LIA combat robot that becomes self-aware and ready to rebel against humans, Gemma has to rebuild M3GAN to combat the threat.
Why is it worth waiting for?
M3GAN was one of the surprise hits of 2023, grossing over 180 million dollars on a budget of only 12. So a sequel was inevitable. But you have to give credit to the creators, who didn’t take the easy way out and make a typical horror sequel. Instead, they took the risk of changing the genre.
Judging by the trailer, the new M3GAN will not primarily be a horror movie, but a sci-fi action movie. Or, at least, it will contain an impressive number of action scenes. So far, it’s hard to say how successful the decision to switch genres was. But it at least adds interest to the project.
M3GAN 2.0 will be released in cinemas on June 27, 2025.
Predator: Killer of Killers
What is the movie about?
A collection of three animated stories, one of which is set in Viking times, the second in feudal Japan, and the third in the skies of World War II. Their heroes will have to face the most dangerous killer in the Universe – the Predator.
Why is it worth waiting for?
In 2025, we will see two alien hunter movies at once. The most anticipated of them is “Predator: Badlands”, which will be released in November. “Killer of Killers” comes out before it as a ‘warm-up’.
The project is primarily interesting because its action unfolds in three time eras at once. This allows the creators to show their imagination and show action scenes, analogs of which were not in the previous films of the franchise. In addition, this is the first entry of “Predator” in the animated territory – the success or failure of the picture will show how confident he feels in this format.
“Predator: Killer of Killers” will be released on Hulu on June 6, 2025.
